2009/10 Match Reports

We had a strong side this week coming into the game and choosing the side was tough. It was nice to get back to a 4-4-2 formation and we started the game very well, passing it about on a big pitch and getting in behind the Knaphill defence early.

We got off to a great start when Woodsy took the ball on a George Weah style run from inside out won half - got all the way to byline and pulled the ball back brilliantly for Evo to stick it in the back of the net - a tidy finish but the goal was made by Woodsy.

Throughout the first half we knocked the ball about great, exploited the width and always threatended when we went forward. Gazza and Woodsy were big threats going forward and Neemsy was holiding the ball up nicely to allow us to push up the pitch. We doubled the lead mid way throught the first half when Woodsy again broke down the right hand side - the ball was again pulled back this time to the far post and Gazza came in to finish very smartly, rifling the ball into the roof of the net from just outside the six-yard box. The lead was then 3-0 just before half time when Luke chased down a high ball to the byline and got the ball in to the box for Neemsy to break his duck - a smart header placed into the corner.

In the secind half we allowed Knaphill back in the game and we saw ourselves 3-2 up with only ten minutes to play. I won’t bore anyone with their goals! With ten to play Gazza broke down the left after threatening all day and came into the box - pulled it back to Woodsy and his shot wa saved by the goalkeeper and then the defender - a great double save from both players!! Apparently if you save a ball with your hand a deny a goalscoring opportunity and you aren’t actually the goalkeeper then it’s just a yellow card! Calder put the pen away and we cam eout 4-2 winners. Nervy second half but great result and good defensive deisplay for 70 minutes also.

Team: Groves, Wright (Jenkins, 75), Sheehy, Webster, Mahoney (Calder, 65(1)), Woods, Worboys, Whiddett, G Evans(1), Neemes(1), R Evans(1) (Boultwood, 70)
