2009/10 Match Reports

The 1st team bounced back from last week’s defeat against Staines by a more comfortable margin than the score line suggests.

In a poor 1st half from both sides were neither seemed to want to try and win the game, it was only the brilliant finishing of Sam Scully that separated the sides.

Scully got his 1st on 14 minutes with this season`s trademark for him – top corner from the edge of the box….unsaveable!  The second came on 25 minutes and involved arguably the only peace of decent football during the 1st half. Neat interplay between Craig and Wil found Stampy whose 1st time pass gave Sam a sight from 8 yards for which he needed no second invitation, stroking the ball home with his right foot (yes ….his right foot!), for a 1st half  brace. Only a poor Twiggy call and some unusual defensive indecision allowed Crescent Rovers back just before half time.

The visitors must have had some stern words at half time as they started the second half with more urgency and for a fifteen minute period dominated possession and looked the more likely to score. It was only a change of system and the introduction of Scott Worboys (Ace to his mates), that livened up proceedings. His energy and bullish approach livened up the rest of the side and where we were timid we had aggression and desire. Pace replaced flat footedness and the next 15 minutes was all Eversley with three scintillating strikes to wrap up the points. 1st Brads shot struck the bar but Wil beat off two challenges to fire in the rebound, then Craig got in on the act – A right footed (yes right footed again!) Scully cross was met crisply on the volley by Skeddy, bringing an excellent save from the Crescent keeper. The razor sharp Craig left defenders floundering to fire home the rebound and make it 4-1. Substitute Woodsey then got in on the act barely two minutes later, fishing calmly from a tight angle to make it 5-1 with his first touch.

The game was now over but credit to Crescent Rovers for their never say die attitude scoring two late goals – even if one was one of the most blatant fouls on a keeper you will ever see!

Without the injured Kieron and suspended Joey an excellent 3 points against a side who have taken points off of many of the top sides this season to date

Team: Giles, Morgan (S Worboys), Wiggins, Spilsbury (capt), D Taylor, Smith, B Worboys, W Neville, Stamp (Firth), Sked (Woods), Scully
