2009/10 Match Reports

Missing key players the 1sts slumped to 2-1 defeat at home to Bedfont Sports. This was by a million miles our poorest performance of the season and we lacked the physical commitment and desire required to impose ourselves on an organised, and fired up Bedfont side.

A Matt Stamp penalty 2 minutes from time made this game look closer than in reality it actually was as Bedfont Sports dominated possession for large portions of the game and ran out comfortable winners.

But for two great close range saves from Adrian Giles Bedfont`s front man Adam Turner but could have had a brace in the first 15 minutes of the game, Giles tipping one drive over the bar and instinctively parrying another close range effort around the post. It was all Bedfont who were sharper and physically stronger. After having one goal ruled out for offside they finally broke through on 36 minutes as Turner converted a Jay Coombes cross to go in to half time 1-0 up with the Bedfont keeper a spectator for the whole first 45.

We started the second half much stronger opposition this half and for the next 20 mins had by far the lions share of the possession. However, for all our dominance only an awful miss by the normally reliant Sam Scully from 6 yards with the goal beckoning  threatened the Bedfont goal on 72 minutes. Moments later Bedfont were 2 up as saw the ball break to Tommy Owen volleyed home from 25 yards. A late rally in the dimming light saw a goal mouth scramble with the Bedfont keeper Daryl Pelton seeing red after inexplicably stamping on Darren Sked. Stamp converted but the final whistle blew almost immediately on the re-start.

Even notable defensive performances from Spils, Wil & Powder failed to put a gloss on an afternoon to forget.

Team: Giles, Morgan, W Neville, Spilsbury (capt), D Taylor, Smith, S Taylor, Firth (Giggs), Woods (Sked), Scully, Stamp (Sheehy)
