2009/10 Match Reports

The first team bounced straight back to form with a much improved performance against bottom side Coulsdon. The home side have signed 14 new players in the past 2 weeks and were prove far more competitive opposition than earlier in the season. The returning Worboys brothers and 1st team debutant Daniel Gigg bolstered the starting line up, along with the influential Kieron Thorn who returned to the bench on his way back from injury.

With some strong words from the management after last week`s lame performance we set about this game with an awful lot more purpose and could have been 3 goals to the good inside 15 minutes with Stampy`s parried shot falling to Skeddy to miss from 6 yards with the goal gaping. Craig Smith and Joey also had gilt edged chances from close range as we dominated the early exchanges.

It was Coulsdon however who took an early lead as Wil Neville saw his deflection loop over Gilesy against the run of play on 25 minutes. By half time though we were 2-1 up as Skeddy converted from Joey`s corner and Joey himself scored from close range.

The second half was much the same as our midfiled 4 of Ace, Joey, Brads & the tireless Craig proving too much for Coulsdon who were soon 4-1 down as Craig finished with aplomb after Brads had sent him through and then Woodsey scored with his first touch after replacing Twiggy on the hour. Only a sloppy second goal soured proceedings when our whole back line failed to respond to a Coulsdon free kick that was parried out by Gilesy. Parity was soon restored as Skeddy slid in “in true Skeddy style” to make it 5 and then Sam, replacing Stampy, got in on the act to make it 6-2 at the final whistle.

A much more competitive display with more commited performances all over the pitch.

Team: Giles, D Taylor (Woods), W Neville, Spilsbury (capt), Gigg, B Worboys, S Taylor, S Worboys (Thorn), Smith, Skedd, Stamp (Scully)
