2009/10 Match Reports

The firsts dealt Mole Valley only their 3rd league defeat of the campaign with arguably our best performance of the season to date at Fox Lane.

Making our  intentions clear, we got about the opposition from the outset and nearly went 1-0 up in the first 30 seconds. Stuart Woods robbed the Mole Valley full back and his cross found Dan Taylor unmarked from 8 yards. Only a 1st class save from the visitors keeper denied the Boars the perfect start. That came though moments later as Woodsey stole in at the far post to tap home a Sam Scully cross from close range. For the next 15 minutes we pressed a shell shocked Mole Valley back and could have extended the lead. The impressive Kieron Thorn and Bradley Worboys dominated the centre of midfield denying Mole valley time and space.

Mole Valley possess the league`s top scorer in Jay Holden in their armoury but both he and his strike partner often found themselves isolated and starved of any service. Holden showed his danger on the half hour latching on to a through ball and calling Adrian Giles to pull off a fingertip save. Mole Valley enjoyed the their best period of the game forcing several corners in succession and could have equalised when Holden headed over from 6 yards.

It was Eversley who increased their lead however as a narrow Mole Valley again allowed space out wide for Stampy to cross once more for on fire Woods, who made no mistake to grab his second of the game and put us 2 up on the break.

Mole Valley started the second half with more purpose and intent but failed to cope with the pressure on the ball that we exerted. Only a long range shot from Theo Cambell troubled Giles in the Eversley goal. At the other end Woods shot wide from a tight angle and striker Darren Sked struck the post from after a neat one two with Scully. On 70 minutes the 3rd goal came from Sked who rose above the Mole Valley back line to convert a Scully corner.

The introduction of Steve Taylor, Craig Smith  and debutant Ross Hogston gave the home side fresh impetus and we comfortably kept possession, domintated the final period of the game. Smith capped an excellent team performance with the best goal of the game, a rasping left foot 20 yarder giving the Mole Valley keeper no chance.

A good performance and nice to get a clean sheet after conceding 9 in our last 3 games. Everyone is working worked hard in trying to improve areas of weakness, and the penny seems to be dropping with us that you achieve what you earn!  Poor results after good ones have stopped us gaining some momentum and climbing the table this season and  so let’s not get carried away and refocus before our visit to Sheerwater this coming weekend.

Team: Giles, Wiggins, Spilsbury, W Neville, D Taylor, Woods, B Worboys, Thorn (Hogston), Scully, Sked (S Taylor), Stamp (Smith)
