We arrived at a temporary ground for Mole Valley this season to find a muddy pitch but one that would be the same for both sides and playable for both sides. Coming off the back of an important win at Frimley Green we had dig deep in this game as we battled very hard with a resolute MV side that were not going to make the afternoon easy for us.
Like much of the game, the first half was scrappy but we edged the play - and went into the lead in the 35th minute after a corner from Neemsy found Nobby at the back stick to head the ball home with power and accuracy. Probably deserved at that stage but MV kept coming at us and going in at half time one up was a real positive for us.
The second half started well for us and we were getting round the back of MV quite a few times, and it was only the mud and wet that was denying us our chances. We got a helping hand (no pun intended) after 10 minutes when Giggsy was pushed on our corner and the referee awarded the spot kick. I missed what happened but wasn’t going to moan as Neemsy slotted the ball away comfortably to double the lead.
From then on we had some chances but were backs against the wall as MV came at us and they half the deficit with ten minutes to go after scrappy defending allowed them to head home at the back post after we failed to stop a cross coming in. Careless defending again which was similar to many goals we have conceded this season. However we hung on to the lead and took the points away. After three games against MV and three wins best of luck goes out to them for the rest of their season.
