Off the back of a hard fought win at Mole Valley last week we were looking forward to getting on to the pitch at The Pen and have some more room to play.
We started the game really well and took the lead after only five minutes when a good run run from Gazza inside the Farleigh defender enabled him to bear down on goal and scramble the ball into the net. We had all the running during a first half which saw us create lots of opportunities and it wasn’t too long before the second goal game after some great build up play Evo cooly slotted the ball home with a curling left footed shot wide of the tallest goalie in history. At two up we had all the running however Farleigh did threaten from a few set plays however would have struggled to beat a goalkeeper in form!
At half time we knew that we had to knuckle down and see this one out - several times we have let our leads go from sloppy defending but in this particular day we had two massive performances from Nobby and Coley at the back which left me feeling sorry for their strikers. Tackle after tackle was clean and well timed and it meant that we were never going to concede - however we still need a third goal to see them off. It duely came with ten minutes to play when a powerful Nobby run forced a good save from the Farleigh goalkeeper onl for Evo to then crash the woodwork in the follow up with the ball then falling to Firthy who cooly volleyed home from ten yards to seal the win. Great performance by the lads let’s hope we continue to build on it.
