Eversley scored 4 goals for the fourth game in succession against 4th bottom Sheerwater to extend their unbeaten run to seven games the score line doesn`t tell the true picture of this hard fought match. The home side battled for every ball and can count themselves very unlucky not to get anything out of this match.
Ross Hogston enjoyed a dream start in his full debut, putting The Boars 1-0 up with a glancing near post header from Wil Neville’s free kick in the second minute. What should have given Eversley the perfect platform to control the game seemed to have the opposite effect as Sheerwater applied more pressure on the ball all over the park. A touch too many and a lack of options too often proved Eversley`s downfall and on 17 minutes Sheerwater were level. As Sheerwater counter attacked a moment’s hesitation in defense let in Max Springall who needed no second invitation to smash home a 20 yarder in the far corner.
Finally a reaction from the visitors as realisation set in that Sheerwater were not just going to lie down. Sam Scully saw his curling long range effort tipped over and Steve Taylor headed just wide from a corner just before the break.
The second half proved just as scrappy with neither side stamping their authority on the game. Matt Stamp and Craig Smith were working exceptionally hard up front but were getting no change out of a tight Sheerwater rear guard. At the other end a collision between Eversley’s Mark Morgan and keeper Adrian Giles saw Giles hobble off leaving Wil Neville to take the gloves. Within seconds Morgan made amends clearing off the line after Neville fumbled a back pass.
The introduction of the more physical Darren Sked and Matt Hopton up front changed the game for The Boars as the ball started to stick in the home side`s last third. Hopton went close with a header from a Scully cross and Wiggins got free from a corner but saw his header drift wide. It was the trickery of Sam Scully that broke the deadlock on 75 minutes as his standing foot was taken by a Sheerwater defender. Matt Hopton stepped up to score the penalty - his 1st goal for the club since his move from Sandhurst. On 80 minutes the points were wrapped up as Sked`s long legs disposed the Sheerwater keeper to leave Hopton with a tap in. In the dying moments Sked himself latched on to a Worboys cross to make the final score a flattering 4-1.
