2009/10 Match Reports

After our last 2 games which both have been titanic battles we were hoping for a more sensible game, played without as much expectation, We knew Joey was unavailable due to the knock he picked up last week and new signing Matt Griffiths also picked up a knock on Saturday and was unavailable. This was an ideal opportunity to field a couple of squad players.

We had kick off and after 2 minutes Will had a long range shot which sailed over the bar. The Wheatsheaf looked a fairly tidy side who looked quite good when they had the ball. A tame shot caught by Sam, who was back in goal for us after quite a long absence was alleged to have gone behind for a corner, how on earth the ref could see from his position caused quite a bit dialogue between him and the Eversley players!

After 10 minutes, good closing down by skedy, allowed us to get ball back in our possession, several shots rained in on the Wheatsheaf goal finally the ball fall to Craig’s feet, who simply had to smash it in.

18 minutes, a big clearing header from Will sailed over everybody to find Skedy in the clear, unselfish work by Skedy who squared the ball for Craig to tap in, 2-0.

25 minutes, again the ball was being banged in on the Wheatsheaf goal, finally a shot from Hoggie was back flicked into the goal by Craig, 3-0 a good hatrick by Craig.

28 minutes, Ben was brought down in the area, the ref pointed to the spot without hesitation, Ben took the kick smashing the ball into the net off of the cross bar.

Hoggie was struggling with a tight groin; we replaced him for the second half with Jonny Mahony, who was also returning to the team after a fairly long absence. Nobby pulled or strained something in his back making a good tackle early in the second half; he continued but had to come off eventually. 55minutes Matt Neems replaced Ben, who was feeling his thigh tighten.

On the hour we should have had got a free kick for a blatant handball the resulting play saw the best goal of the day by the Wheatsheaf No17 Nick Hatton, he slipped the ball around Twiggy then let rip with unstoppable shot that flew into the top right hand corner, 4-1

Nobby had to come off, with Chris coming on, Twiggy filling Nobbys place and Jonny covering Twiggy and Chris playing out wide on the left. The Wheatsheaf enjoyed a lot of possession but no real thrust and we had several good chances on the counter, the best falling to Craig who saw his effort well saved after excellent work by Chris on the left, who also had a good shot go only just wide shortly after.

The game ended exactly on time? All things considered we were well worth the win but the Wheatsheaf put up a good fight, we looked a bit lack lustre in the second half and missed Joey’s influence in midfield, saying that the man of the match was shared between Will and Deano who never stopped working. With a full squad to choose from my job will be difficult in the coming weeks but what a nice position to be in?

Team: Sam. Giggsy, Ian, Nobby (Chris) and Twiggy. Will, Hoggie (Jonny) and Deano. Ben (Matt Neems) Craig and Skedy.

Scorers: Craig (3) Ben (pen)
