2009/10 Match Reports

Just two Reserve team games were played on a day that saw wet and windy conditions and a long trek to Croydon! Crescent had given us a hard game at our place and we knew that they would be physical and take the game to us.

This was true and with some big and powerful players in their side they set about us early with a few close headers and few decent shots. However it was the boars that took the lead after fifteen minutes as we pressurised the Crescent goal. Gazza’s pace was always going to be the key and when he got in behind their back four and swung a fantastic cross in which found Evo who guided it past the keeper - great ball in and a great header.

Crescent got themselves back in the game five minutes before half time when they found space on the edge of the box and a low sliding shot beat Luca who would have saved it on a better surface. 1-1 at half time.

The second half was really dominated by the boars and despite playing up hill we kept the ball well and used it much better. Possession was going to be the key and the grit and determination together with clever play from our boys is what won the day. Our build up play was great but we just needed the final product and it came with second half strikes from Neemsy and Gazza respectively to keep up their good goal scoring runs.

We still need to be finishing more of our chances and be a bit more clinical in front of goal, and it’s these areas we need to work on if we are going to get results at Farnham and Worcester Park this month. Overall, this was a game which we might have drawn 2-2 at the start of the season but we saw out another victory to finish the month with maximum points.

Team: Groves, Gigg, Cordaro (Calder, 70), Pennington, Webster, Sheehy, Boutlwood (Jenkins, 70), Firth, Neemes, Evans G, Evans R
